HI-MACS® Green Story

At LG Hausys, sustainability isn't just a buzzword. It means protecting our consumers as well as the world we all share. Whether in the kitchen or the bathroom, you and your family can breathe easy knowing that your HI-MACS surface is just as safe as it is beautiful.

The truth about vocs

Did you know that the primary sources of indoor airborne chemicals are the products, furnishings and building materials used to create that environment? Known as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), these chemical emissions can contribute to a wide range of adverse health effects such as allergies, asthma, and bronchitis. According to the EPA, VOCS are 2-5 times higher indoors than outdoors; and considering Americans spend 50-90% of their time indoors, cutting down on VOCs is a priority. HI-MACS is a low VOC-emitting material, and will give you and your family peace of mind knowing that you are using a product that contributes to a healthier interior.

Greenguard - Indoor Air Quality Certified

What is GREENGUARD?

All HI-MACS solid surfaces are GREENGUARD certified — which means our products emit low VOCs and help improve indoor air quality. You can count on the safety of your HI-MACS surface, knowing it's backed by empirical scientific data from an unbiased, third-party organization.

HI-MACS has also earned GREENGUARD Children & Schools certification, which sets chemical emissions guidelines for building products used in schools.

NSF Certified

Why NSF® certification matters

All HI-MACS surfaces are NSF/ANSI Standard 51-certified to the highest level for food contact. No independent testing organization is as stringent with its compliance procedures as NSF. Beyond just a one-time activity, NSF certification requires regular on-site inspections of HI-MACS manufacturing facilities. NSF certification ensures that your family can rely on the hygienic properties of your HI-MACS surface.

Recycled Content

Using recycled materials is one of the most basic yet essential components of sustainable design. Our HI-MACS Eden Plus collection offers you a wide range of colors and is composed of up to 35% pre-consumer recycled content. Consisting of trim materials, unused particulates, and sheets of solid surface below production standards, the reuse of this content cuts down on waste and helps us to leave a smaller carbon footprint.

U.S. Green Building Council Member

WE HOLD OURSELVES TO HIGH STANDARDS

The first step we took in creating an environmentally responsible product was to design a factory and manufacturing process just as thoughtful. Our HI-MACS production facility in Adairsville, GA began operations in 2005 and currently supplies all of North America and Europe while maintaining eco-friendly and sustainable manufacturing practices.

Since opening, we've successfully reduced water waste output substantially each year. We've also reduced solid waste output by almost 90% by re-purposing previously discarded materials and deploying an aggressive waste analysis and separation process. Plants are reusing the superstacks in which raw materials are delivered, while palettes and cover films are collected and in turn, recycled.

Sustainability is the mindset at LG Hausys. We believe that by designing responsibly today, we ensure a better tomorrow.
